Like you, we have a passion for sewing and crafting and love sharing that passion with others. Recognizing a need in this region for a different approach, our goal from the start was to offer the consumers in Atlantic Canada a variety of products from the creative industry that were not available to them, and deliver it with the best service in the business.

"From the outset we really wanted to be local leaders in the creative industry...and felt that we could do so because we had the selection of new and different products, value pricing, knowledge of the industry and could offer our customers help and advice that would hopefully keep them coming back," says President, Kathy Dean.

Dennis and Kathy spent spent most of their first year in business working with staff and customers, listening to their every request and trying to satisfy their needs. "It is amazing the wealth of information you can accumulate from talking with people and exchanging ideas and information," say Dean.

After a very successful first year in business selling more fabric for Cabbage Patch Dolls and Care Bears than fashion fabric for our customers, we quickly learned that we needed to offer classes to teach more people in this region how to sew. So we built a classroom and haven't looked back since. To this day, Creative Classes are still an integral part of our business, offering customers of all ages and abilities the opportunity to learn something new or take their creative skills to the next level.

With a second year under our belt, we realized there was an ever increasing interest in craft supplies, so we expanded our product line to include a variety of crafts in addition to fabric and notions. We are now very proud to be a creative industry leader in this category and continue to offer new and emerging products and services from the world of crafting.

The buzz of Atlantic Fabrics spread quickly across Nova Scotia and the Atlantic Provinces - It wasn't long before we expanded, opening our second store in May, 1986, and a third two years later in Bedford, Nova Scotia. As it turned out, three stores wasn't enough to feed the creative demand of Nova Scotians, allowing us the opportunity to open three more stores before the century's end; Greenwood in October, 1991, Bridgewater in August, 1996, then New Glasgow in August 1997.
